# Assign Jobs to Iterations

> Decide what ships when by assigning jobs to delivery slices.

Assigning jobs to iterations is how you decide what ships when. It turns your strategic tree into an execution plan.

## Assigning a job

1. Click on a job in the Planning Tree or Delivery Map
2. In the side panel, find the **iteration dropdown**
3. Select the iteration you want to assign it to

You can assign multiple jobs at once by selecting an approach and using the bulk assignment controls.

## What to assign

Not every job needs an iteration right away. A good rule of thumb:

* **Assign** jobs you're actively planning to work on in the next 1-2 iterations
* **Leave unassigned** (Later) jobs that are captured but not yet prioritized
* **Don't force it**. If you're not sure when something should ship, Later is the right answer

## Building a balanced iteration

A good iteration pulls jobs from multiple approaches across different goals. This ensures each release delivers balanced value rather than over-investing in a single area.

Check the Delivery Map after assigning. If your iteration has all its jobs under one approach, you might be too focused. If it has jobs from 10 approaches, you might be spreading too thin.

## Moving jobs between iterations

Plans change. To reassign a job, open it in the side panel and change the iteration dropdown. The Delivery Map updates immediately.

## Unassigning

To move a job back to the inbox, assign it to **Later**. It stays in the tree but drops out of active iteration views.
